ABOUT THE ARTISTS

'til DEATH do us ART
Wonder and Hearth was born from the love story of its founders, wives Laura and Jayla DeLaurier, soon after they wed on February 22, 2024. Coming off the heels of a DIY boutique wedding, the couple was itching for a new project, and had been postulating about potentially opening an apothecary. This idea stemmed from a shared love of merging the material world with the metaphysical, but the DeLauriers found themselves searching for the perfect product to reflect their unique artistic perspectives. During their established household practice of annual vision board crafting, the pair struck creative gold while transfixed in the act of collaging, and thus began Wonder and Hearth Magazine.
After earning a B.B.A. in Marketing and a minor in Visualization from Texas A&M University, Laura migrated from her small East Texas hometown to Houston in 2020 in pursuit of her dream career as an independent artist. Having dabbled in numerous types of media throughout her early life, including traditional fine arts as well as new media design, she sought to find a discipline that would cohesively blend her extensive arsenal of creative trades. While quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed an affinity for jewelry-making, and spent the next few years honing her designs and technique. Today, her tactile arts now find a home in the Wonder and Hearth Shop, and her role as Creative Director for Wonder and Hearth Magazine encompasses the photography, modeling, styling, writing, graphic design, and interior design skills she contributes to every piece. Her signature art style combines sweet, southern charm with alternative grunge glam, and is always finished with a maximalist flair.

A lifelong scientist from the south, Jayla Janae (or "JJ" for short) graduated in 2019 with a Biology degree and a Chemistry minor from Texas Southern University. Born intrinsically curious, she spent most of her youth as an enthusiastic collaborator on projects rather than an independent creator. She wandered into artistry by way of marriage, where her loving life partner opened her eyes to the myriad of ways in which she could be honing her wild imagination. With her intention focused, she now directs her artistic efforts toward her passions of pyrography, creative writing, gardening, and lifestyle photography. She also enjoys gaming, cooking, and making music alongside her wife. As Organizing Director for Wonder and Hearth, she utilizes her natural talent for project management to ensure that every "work of heart" makes its way from our hands to your home without a hitch.
